Fresh off two packed sets at Stagecoach Festival, Braxton Keith was still buzzing backstage when we caught up to talk debut albums, viral moments, traditional country music and when fans can finally expect him overseas. With Real Damn Deal arriving in just a matter of days, it’s safe to say the Texas star is having a huge moment.
Lauren: Braxton, we need to have a word because you’ve built a huge European fanbase already - when are you finally bringing these shows overseas?
Braxton Keith: Haha we’re coming as fast as we can! I promise, I PROMISE.
Lauren: Does it ever take you back when you look at Spotify Wrapped and all the stats and realise there are people on the other side of the world listening to your music?
Braxton: Oh it’s so crazy. Y’all get the music a day early over there, so whenever we release something, from the UK or Australia alone we’ll see tens of thousands of plays early doors, which is always wild to see.
Lauren: We’re certainly excited to be getting Real Damn Deal earlier - and it’s not long now until the album comes out!
Braxton: It is SO SOON.
Lauren: I was having a look through the tracklist and the songs we’ve already heard, but I loved seeing there’s a collaboration with Mae Estes on the record.
Braxton: Oh yeah, Mae is pretty good. If you know anything about country music, Mae Estes is a killer for sure. We played a few shows together and her voice is beautiful. I wanted someone on the track who sounded traditionally country and she’s got that perfect style.
Lauren: Tell me a little about the album because I find it hard to believe this is technically the debut album. We’ve had so much music from you already - you’ve been teasing us for so long!
Braxton: Absolutely! It’s crazy that this is the first full-length album we’ve been able to put out. Mostly we’ve been doing singles and EPs, so finally releasing a full record that explores all spectrums of country music is really exciting. I’m excited for the fans to hear it.
Lauren: What’s the reaction been like from close friends and family who’ve heard snippets so far?
Braxton: There’s definitely some sadder, slower songs in there that bring it down a little bit, but there’s some honky tonk stuff in there too, so you can cry your eyes out and drink a beer at the same time.
Lauren: We caught your sets here at Stagecoach and the Bud Light stage was absolutely rammed. How has your Stagecoach experience been?
Braxton: Oh it’s been awesome. The fans have been really receptive and this is only our second time in California, so we’re excited to be playing here. First time at Stagecoach too! This festival has been badass.
Lauren: Was there anyone on the lineup where you saw your name next to theirs and thought, “Oh my gosh, this is insane”?
Braxton: Oh all my friends are playing, but Post Malone being on the lineup is crazy. It’s such a great lineup and we’re just excited to be here.
Lauren: We’ve also seen a few viral moments from you recently - and I hate to be that TikTok person - but “I Own This Bar” has fully become a trend.
Braxton: Oh we got lucky with that one. I mean the trending line is, “I’m Braxton Keith, I own this bar,” so it’s a great way to get my name out there!
Lauren: Haha, it’s the one and only. When you dropped that track, did you have a feeling fans were going to absolutely eat it up?
Braxton: Oh yeah, I knew from the beginning this was going to be something. It’s tongue-in-cheek and I thought it was definitely something I hadn’t heard in a while. It’s a bit different.
Lauren: I love it. It’s absolutely become my new vocal stim. There’ll be total silence and I’ll suddenly go “DRINKS ARE ON ME!” and everyone’s like, “Lauren, please stop saying that.”
Braxton: Haha I love it, that’s the best.
Lauren: So with the debut album finally landing, what else does the rest of the year look like for you and the band?
Braxton: We’ve got a lot of shows coming up this year and we’re playing all over the country - and even a few outside of the country too. We’ve also got a lot of singles dropping after the album, so there’s going to be new music all year round. Keep your eyes and ears peeled. We’ve even got a few music videos on the way too.
Lauren: I love that. A question I ask everyone I speak to - who’s an artist you think more people in the UK should be listening to right now?
Braxton: Oh, William Beckmann for sure. If you haven’t listened to him yet, get William Beckmann on your playlists. Also Jake Worthington - he’s one of my favourites. Those two guys are right there.
Lauren: And before I forget, congratulations are in order too. A busy year touring, releasing an album, getting married…
Braxton: Why thankyou!
Lauren: …and coming to the UK in 2027?
Braxton: Haha we’re trying!
Braxton Keith’s debut album Real Damn Deal is out Friday, May 15.
