Back in Glasgow, which they admitted is one of their favourite cities, Sports Team returned to Scotland for a rowdy gig featuring support acts Kissing People and Indoor Foxes.
Kissing People opened the evening with an energy that instantly filled the room. A trio of close friends who only formed the band earlier this year, they’ve already notched up support slots with Supergrass and now Sports Team - a rapid rise that makes total sense after seeing them live. Their set was packed with unfiltered fun, smiles, and infectious enthusiasm; the kind of performance that feels less like a rehearsed gig and more like being invited into a jam session between mates. They clearly love what they do, and that joy bled into the crowd. It was slightly gutting to leave without knowing where to stream their songs - a sure sign that they made an impression worth chasing.
Next up were Indoor Foxes, the ever-cool indie outfit from Leith who’ve been making serious waves thanks to BBC Introducing and appearances at Reading & Leeds earlier this year. By the time they launched into their third song, the venue was heaving - shoulder-to-shoulder, the buzz was tangible. Their sound is loud, confident, and laced with attitude, and it’s easy to see why audiences across the UK are paying attention. Their set was tight, punchy, and unapologetically bold - the perfect segue into the headline act.
It’s been a while since I last saw Sports Team. After taking a brief hiatus in 2022, I truly thought that was the last of the band, which is a shame because they launched in 2016, just as I started my Music Journalism career. Hence, they were one of the key bands I would always catch on the up-and-coming/ introducing stages across the festival circuit.
But 2 years since GULP! And their comeback record, I’m in Love (Subaru), took our playlists by storm. The six-piece announced a string of UK dates following the release of their latest album, Boys These Days.
There wasn’t a moment to process that the band had come on stage before they burst into The Game, Bang Bang Bang, Happy, The Drop, Stations of the Cross - all without a breath, it was go, go, go. Except for the lead singer to announce the after party would be at Nice n Sleazys, I love when bands visit Glasgow and visit the local nightlife - also, great choice.
Playing an array of tracks from their new album, plus some of the fan favourites including Sensible, Kutcher, Pet Sounds and M5, which came into an intro of Sweet Home Alabama and Call Me Maybe.
“We remember playing King Tuts back in the day and seeing our name on the stairs, you were a rowdy bunch then, and you still are now - we love it”, and with that, the crowd formed a LITERAL human pyramid in the crowd. I’d never been to The Art School for a gig before, but this was something else entirely - a beautiful kind of chaos from start to finish. The band’s chemistry on stage is undeniable; six musicians feeding off each other’s energy, delivering razor-sharp indie rock layered with wit and self-awareness.
They’re tight, they’re confident, and they’ve clearly evolved while keeping that mischievous spark intact.
The band fuse so well together on stage - oozing indie rock and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, it is so well put together and Maybe When We’re Thirsty leading onto an encore of Fishing and Here’s the Thing was just sheer perfection from start to finish.
It’s so good to see Sports Team touring again, and their new album, which I feel has truly cemented their sound and tenure in the industry. A fab night, and I hope they appear on more festival circuits for 2026.
