Kyle Falconer today releases his brand new album 'Lovely Night of Terror' via Modern Sky / Run On Records. The project has sparked a wave of anticipation for fans, firstly via its imaginative range of top tier collaborators who feature on its singles - Peter Doherty, Lottery Winners and Jamie Webster - and secondly for placing Kyle's peak songwriting powers in a bright, alt-pop sonic style.
Kyle says, "I've never done a collab album, so it was great to work with people that I'm a massive fan of. It was about finding the right song that would be the best fit for them - and I was confident that these are the best songs I've written in a long time. That's what it's about for me, I just want to write great songs."
The album is launched alongside the focus track 'Madness' which features Dave McCabe of The Zutons. Stepping into modernist, beat-heavy pop, it's a song that's both energising and wistful. The duo's vocal styles are a natural fit together, as they tackle lyrics which confront the less predictable side of Kyle's all-or-nothing approach to life.
He adds, "This track comes at a point in the record where we needed to slow things down. Everything up until then is upbeat and fast-paced. It's pretty self-explanatory — it's about feeling mad. I was talking to my wife and realised we have very different approaches to life. The madness of how I do things makes me sad sometimes, but it's who I am. Dave McCabe is on this track and he's always been a hero of mine. I'm lucky to call him a friend these days."
The album also introduced another new feature with the feelgood pop-rock anthem 'Worlds Away', which sees Justin Hawkins of The Darkness deliver a verse and tight vocal harmonies with his inimitable voice.
Beyond the collabs, 'Lovely Night of Terror' presents a wealth of essential new Kyle songs for fans to discover. It's a record in which he always dares to go for the bolder choice, from the fever dream nightmare atmospherics of the title track, to the unpredictable turns of 'Can't Swim', and the closing confessional of 'Third Time Mucky' which addresses the realisation that some things in life are worth persevering with.
'Lovely Night of Terror' is available to buy HERE. It is available on dark red vinyl and CD.
