Before we'd even properly introduced ourselves backstage at BST Hyde Park, we'd somehow found ourselves chatting about holidays and laughing as if we'd known each other for years. It's that easy-going nature that has helped the Maryland native win over country fans on both sides of the Atlantic, and with one of the biggest performances of his career just moments away, he still seemed completely grounded.
